Emily Rains 03:23
Emily rains All over the weekend Never explains Jumps in at the deep end Says, "doctor can you help me please I've a chronic case of weird disease I don't believe everything I read And you can't trust me I know that I wanted the job but it's just not me So many different people I could be" Somebody's name All over the front page Should be ashamed No doubt it's an outrage Oh my sweetheart can't you see You undermine my self belief And I don't doubt your integrity But you don't get me I know I should love what I've got but it's just not me Too many other people I could be You do don'tcha You do don'tcha You do don'tcha Do ya, do ya, do ya, do ya Doctor can you help me please I've a chronic case of weird disease I don't believe everything I read And you can't trust me Emily rains

High Horse 04:12
Get off your high horse, shut your mouth These bigoted things you're uttering I can live without I can live without Swallow the spite just pack it in Struggle to think what world it is You're living in You're living in Each time I talk to you I find I must've been out of my mind Get it there's just this thing you see Whatever you say don't look to me "Cause I don't agree I don't agree What is all this hatred in your head And where is the love you could have felt If you'd put in there instead There instead Each time I talk to you I find I must've been out of my mind Don't you think before you speak 'Cause you just can't be that blind Don't you think before you speak 'Cause you just can't be that blind Get over yourself and sort it Bigoted things you're muttering I can do without I can do without Swallow the spite just pack it in Struggle to think what world it is You're living in You're living in Each time I talk to you I find I must've been out of my mind Get off your high horse shut your mouth Where is the love that you spat out Oh shut your mouth Just shut your mouth

about

MMO inadvertently released their first e.p. of 2018 in March, just in time to coincide with The Beast From the East. As trains were cancelled, motorways closed and various band members snowed into their cul-de-sacs, gigs had to be abandoned.

But reviewers were smiling: The Crack called title track, All The Love, “a propulsive and ramshackle tune that is kitted out in all manner of fuzz and Big Star style melody. Cracking stuff", while Emerging Indie Bands wrote of “a sense of stop start motion from which an unexpectedly evocative and tender vocal laments of isolated rejection". Meanwhile, NARC magazine favoured third track, Get Out Of My Head, which it described as “a poppier, fast-paced delight that nods towards influences such as Hendrix and The Raconteurs."

MMO follow All The Love with a new e.p., Emily Rains, released on June 22nd. The title track is a rousing stab of Small Faces style white soul, propelled by a garage rock riff reminiscent of the Stooges.

High Horse is searing, punk-pop broadside at Brexit-era bigotry, built around a guitar figure that wouldn’t have been out of place on Sugar’s Copper Blue album and a chorus of Beatle-esque jangle.

Besides Dave Brubeck, few artists have attempted songs in the 5/4 time signature, but that’s how closer, Tunnel Vision starts, switching to a Spanish flavoured 6/8 for the chorus. This is MMO at their most experimental, but they still manage to come closer to the Pixies in feel than to modern jazz or flamenco.

about

Mechanical Mouse Organ Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK

Mechanical Mouse Organ's lineage stretches back to 90's indie hopefuls, Hug, whose brief career won them plaudits from the NME and Mark Radcliffe. A reunion in 2011 paved the way for a new band, featuring Darryl Todd on vocals, and a harder edged direction mixing alt and classic rock sounds, pushed through the tonal blender with a large dose of melody and a healthy injection of raw power. ... more
